FIRST EDITION. First Impression. With 10 extra photographic prints pasted in, including possible photo of Rey on inside front cover. Previously owned by S. L. Courtauld (of the Cortauld family and Eltham Palace fame) who, as a very keen mountaineer, also probably took the photographs and pasted them in. Large 8vo. hardback, bound in original publisher's mustard cloth with leather title label to spine. 336pp., illustrated with 14 two-colour, tipped-in plates, tissue-guarded with captions, 23 line drawings and 11 b/w photographic plates. Also illustrated with an additional 10 real b/w photos, pasted in on blank reverse sides of illustrations. A couple of plates have become detached and many of the illustrated pages have very brittle edges with some loss. Engraved bookplate and signature and date (Xmas 1907) of S. L. Courtauld to ffep. Some pencil annotations to pasted in photographs. Binding a little weak. Some foxing to prelims. Spine darkened and slight damage to title labels. Some wear to edges and small nick to top edge of upper board. Overall a Sound but Interesting Association Copy.
