First British illustrated edition. 8vo., in original full brown cloth gilt, with blind-stamped decorative borders to both covers and gilt device to spine; 355pp, with b/w frontis, illustrated title page, and 6 plates. Old ink owner name and number to front pastedown and gift inscription to reverse of frontis. Slight browning to edges, binding rather stretched with splits to endpapers of front and rear inner hinges, covers rather rubbed, corners bumped, fraying to foot and slight loss to top, gilt a little faded. Sound overall.
