FIRST EDITION 8vo. brown pebble cloth hardback, gilt, with decorative blind-embossed borders to boards. Contains handwritten letter from the Editor of "The Antiquary" to Planche and Planche's handwritten reply pasted in at half title. Newspaper cuttings from The Illustrated Review, Friday, December 15, 1871 relating to Planche pasted in at Dedication page. Also contains a loose envelope with various newspaper cuttings, letters and a sketch with connections to Planche and Ash-next-Sandwich. 413pp., illustrated with woodcuts in text and b/w plates, including a map. Previous owner's bookplate to front pastedown and ink signature and date, 1917, to half title. Mauve rubber stamp name (same) to top of title page. Front and rear inner hinges have been strengthened with brown cloth tape. Light wear and rubbing to all edges and slight splitting to cloth at top and base of spine. Overall a Good Copy with associated ephemera.
